The Phangs remembered in the 1960s

Hilda and Rosalind Phang in the USA in 1919.

But which is which? I think Rosalind is at the top and Hilda below, but I really am not sure!

Living in rural Jamaica in the 1920s we did not often have the opportunity of hearing concerts of classical music. I particularly remember one such concert put on at the Court House in Black River, which thrilled me. It was put on by the Phang sisters from Balaclava. Their parents were aristocratic Chinese, who ran a prosperous business in Balaclava. As I recall, they were very lovely, and very graceful, and wore beautiful Chinese outfits. I think one was a pianist, and I believe one played the violin. They performed several dances. Myrnelle Mclntosh, a long-time Gleaner columnist, writing in the Gleaner in 1995

I have tried to be as factually accurate as possible on these pages, but there are certainly errors which need to be corrected. I shall be grateful for information on any such needed corrections. My opinions are another matter, but I have tried to keep them to a minimum any way! our.history@jamaica.la
